The Caves of Altamira constitute one of the most important pictorial cycles in Prehistory. They are located in the vicinity of Santillana del Mar, in Cantabria. They were discovered by Marcelino Sanz de Santuola in 1879 and inside of them you can find representations of buffalos, goats, hinds, horses, signs, zoomorph masks and human figures.
This discovery arose a tremendous controversy among the archaeologists because of the authenticity of the same, 120 years ago.
