Königliches Kloster San Lorenzo del Escorial

Die Klosterresidenz Monasterio de El Escorial wurde von Philipp II. dem Sieg im Schlacht von Saint-Quentin gegen der Franzoser am 10. August 1557 geweiht. Ihre Anrchitektur ist nüchtern und streng, wenig verziert.

Sie wurde als königliches Pantheon für seine Eltern, Karl und Isabella von Portugal, seine Nachkommen und für sich selbst entworfen. Als repräsentativste Merkmale gelten die ausgeglichene Gestaltung und nüchterne Verzierung.
