Es handelt sich um eine der ersten gotischen Kathedralen Kastiliens, bei deren Bau man sich möglicherweise in der französischen Abtei Saint-Denis inspirieren ließ.
Das Kloster wurde 1515 eingeweiht. Es handelt sich um ein Karmelitenkloster, in dem die heilige Theresa in den Orden eintrat und neunundzwanzig Jahre wohnte.
Es handelt sich um ein aus dem 15. Jh. stammendes monumentales Kloster, dessen Stifter die Katholischen Könige und der Inquisitor Fray Tomás de Torquemada waren und dessen Begründer María de Dávila war. Es wurde als Dominikanerkloster errichtet.
Die Stadt ist eine der berühmtesten befestigten Gelände der Welt. Die Stadtmauer wird als das vollständigste erhaltene Bauwerk aus dem Mittelalter betrachtet.
